anyone with any hints or clues or guesses? - this question referring foremost to the latter man (travis).

Cully Symington is the band's new drummer.

This is my question too.

I'm became an OR fan after I was dragged along to a gig 5 years ago. Travis' absolute joy at playing was infectious.

It would be nice if there was some statement for fans about his departure.

I loved Travis. He brought so much to the band! His energy was beyond contagious! I wish we knew more about his departure, but I'm not terribly upset by the change. That's just what happens with bands: members come and go. Luckily OR was able to get Symington. I couldn't think of anyone better to fill Travis' shoes. I'm really looking forward to hearing what he can bring to the band! Even so, Travis... you will be missed.

Travis left Okkervil to spend more time with friends and family, and on other pursuits. The parting was amicable. Will posted something about it quite sometime later, but a website snafu (admittedly possibly mine) lost the post.*

I have yet to see Cully with them live, but I hear fantastic things of him.

*Edit note: Bolded this bit in case it was missed... like I said, there was official explanation at one point, but this website is sometimes a bit screwy, and Will's post disappeared. Whether this was due to it being accidentally deleted, or if it just went the mysterious way that several threads have over the past 8 months, or if WIll chose to remove it for some reason, I cannot tell you. However, it was not much more detailed than what I said above. Sorry if that sounds cold--we all love Travis--but my eloquence is currently being employed elsewhere.
Oh dear, look what they've done to the blues, blues, blues

Sorry, but what you re saying sounds like the prolog to the words some head of the words department would use, working for the next best advertising agency, the task being, making something wrong sound right.

"Members come and go..." which other band, that lasted for as long has lost 75 percent of its original members without even mentioning that and why they left?

And apart from that: all the answers I received (apart from the one from bette boop) came along in quite a similar tone of voice – making me feel as if I was at a conference, a meeting with some brokers on wall street, where it's accepted to be the usual thing that people get exchanged as if there was no difference between someone and something.

Wilco.... that's the one that comes to mind without actually researching it.

And... Travis wasn't an original member. I'm pretty sure he was their third drummer (after Seth and Mark). He didn't join till 4 or 5 years in. So only 66.6666666666667 percent of the original lineup has left. :)

Either the parting was amicable as has been stated, or it wasn't, as some people here seem to be implying. If that is the case, then it appears that all parties involved are too classy to air their dirty laundry in public. As Christel stated, Will did post something on the boards last year after the LA Times reported in a review of one of the Roky shows that Travis was no longer with the band. There has also not been any formal statement about Scott leaving, either. Like it or not, lineup changes are pretty common to mid-level bands.

band pictures (or even band name) become obsolete that way - whatever you say.

in musical terms: "think for yourself" - the beatles (who existed for as long as there was john, paul, george and ringo) or be "just" - radiohead (never changed their circle of members, accepting the vaults of fate in a way that will allow for the time that may be needed to progress...) - also: bob dylan = bob dylan.

my last will: make this music last for ever more without consuming people.
