Anyone play trumpet?

Anything not related to Okkervil river should go here.

Anyone play trumpet?

Postby RyanWK on Wed Nov 19, 2008 2:33 pm

I have been playing drums forever and I can play guitar to a certain extent, but I have decided that I really want to learn trumpet. When I was growing up I always loved the trumpet in the Ennio Morricone "Fistful of Dollars theme) and my love for the instrument grew with Okkervil River and NMH.

A friend of mine gave me a trumpet for free and of course of one of the valves is stuck, so I need to get that fixed, but once I get that done I am going to hopefully start taking lessons

Anyway, I was just wondering if there were any trumpet players around these parts that had any advice for a beginner

Although I guess Scott actually plays a cornet... close enough though, huh?

French horn player here. I can play trumpet by default.

if you want PM me, and I can maybe show you some rudimentary brass techniques and such. Also, how stuck are your keys? I might be able to fix it if it's not too bad. I'd fix it for free. Again, PM me.

BTW, the main basic difference between a cornet and a trumpet is the shape, which alters the tone a bit. The ranges are basically the same.

NICE! Thanks for the offer I am going to pawn it off on one of the people in my band, 2 of them play trumpet and one plays tuba. If they fail though I will let you know.
