Now that is a DVD I would buy! Personally I think both OR and MW deserve full length shows of their own, but you can't have everything.

That's awesome that they're paired with M. Ward, he's the other artist I would most want to watch out of all of those. I can't wait to see it!

Just saw the premiere here in CA. It was fantastic but edited to hell, as M. Ward took up the first half of the show. The edited setlist ended up being:

Lost Coastlines (w/ Jonathan on vox!)
For Real (Piano + Strings w/ full band [inc. Brian Cassidy on electric guitar!] breakdown at the end)
Our Life Is Not a Movie or Maybe
Unless It's Kicks

followed by a brief one minute interview w/ Will at the end that bled into the credits. seeing as how I already saw Unless It's Kicks in the preview posted this week, I couldn't help but feel a bit shafted - esp. b/c I wanted to see rarer songs like A King and A Queen and War Criminal being performed live. does PBS ever release full tapings of these ACL shows? please say yes.
wish i could remember why it mattered to me. . .

Lucky guy, getting to be there. I was excited just to see them on t.v. besides a Late Show. And wow did they not dissapoint was it just me or was Will's voice in damn fine shape, especially on For Real, the "You Can't Hide" part that slayed me, Damn it this band is soooo good. Any the way he got the crowd into it, I just wish they could have played the whole hour, although I did enjoy watching M. Ward, mellow man........... geeezz I got to see them live I always miss them when they come to chicago....anyways totally amazed me last night, they never cease didn't that. They just get better and better, now I can't wait for new songs. WWAAAAAAAAAAA whoooooo
When I'm hosed and they're closing in, maybe only then, Really I'll try to get right with myself.

Really I just want to slide, I want to crash land

That version of For Real was special. I'm so happy to have it on my dvr.
Thank you OR.

Great show. Had been looking forward to that version of For Real after hearing about the taping, and it was really awe inspiring.

I guess I'd have dropped one of the tunes they picked that was 6-7 minutes and swapped in two songs for it - with 4 songs, it FELT really short, even though they got the same amount of time was Ward (who I found really dull).

But hey, it was Okkervil on TV, they sounded great, and we got a special moment out of it. Can't complain.

Finally watched it. I was so hyped up for this it's not surprising I was a little disappointed, but I thought the show didn't do either group justice. I don't know why M. Ward and his band, who freakin' blew the roof off the place when I saw them, were so one-note in terms of mood. Mellow is great but it ended up being kind of flat emotionally, which is not a true representation of seeing them live. Also those backup singers looked terrified! At least he got some good guitar time in. That man is a guitar god.

As for Okkervil, there is no way a person could watch that show and think they were anything less than tremendous live. Their performance level was as through the roof as it ever is, and the crowd was so expressive and joyous. The only ACL show I can think of with a more fanatic crowd was Arcade Fire. So the vibe was great. But even with the foreknowledge that Will wasn't in great voice I was still disappointed with his vocals. I do find it fascinating watching singers sing around the song when they know they can't hit certain notes, but what a shame that he couldn't be 100% for such an important show. He's grown so much vocally, and each time I've seen him live his voice has been beautiful. I wish it was that voice that had been preserved for posterity.

I didn't think I'd get to see this, being in Oz and all, so thanks ddundy for the download! Just watched it, thought it was fantastic, LOVED the slow version of For Real.

Well, it still hasn't aired here, with or without sound, and I can't seem to download it. Spent some time talking about it again this evening, as I bought a va-voom-ish vintage pink cashmere sweater and sparkly, fabulously tacky holiday socks (sometimes my impulse purchases are so "me") from my favourite family, the Chesters.* Or rather, we were talking about what was left out, but it still sounds like an exciting episode, so I hope I eventually get to see (and hear) it.

*I must mention I'm posting a ramble of randomness, which is my admittedly personal perspective of an incident in which the Mr. half of the Chesters and I shared a public Okkervil moment with a complete stranger. It made me happy.
Oh dear, look what they've done to the blues, blues, blues

Thanks cruzi. I emailed that link to my ex and he replied with:
