SONGS that make you CRY

Postby RyanWK on Thu Dec 13, 2007 2:41 am

I'm sure I have been in going through hard times and cried to a few songs... but I can't remember any specifics... I do know that besides the songs already listed these songs are pretty emotionally draining (hopefully I'm not relisting any):

Brian Eno-"the big ship"
Wilderness-"Monumental"
Slint-"Washer"
Silver Jews-"Dallas", "Black and Brown Blues"
Songs: Ohia-"Back on Top"
Gowns-"White Like Heaven"
Elliott Smith-"Everything Means Nothing To me"
Mono-"The Flames Beyond the cold mountain"

True Love, Half Right, Flowers for Charlie, I better be quiet now by Elliott Smith
Nude, True Love Waits, Bulletproof... I wish I was by Radiohead
Lime Tree by Bright Eyes
Bird Stealing Bread, Upwards over the Mountain by Iron and Wine
Wasted, Slow Dancing, Old Sad Songs, A Heart so True by Lucero
Pine Box by William Elliott Whitmore
Barnacles by Ugly Cassanova
After O'Rourkes, Album of the Year by The Good Life
Church of Level Track by Tim Barry
How to Fight Loneliness by Wilco
Sunflower, Blue Christmas by Low

Probably the most memorable of all for me was the first time I heard Pints of Guinness (acoustic version) by Against Me!

*Not to make it seem as though I spent 80% of my life crying with these songs here, but these are more songs I felt I could have cried to if'n I was in the right type of mood..... /disclaimer**

"This is a love song, this is a song about telephones and how after about, like, two weeks they're just not funny anymore. This is a song about just wishin' that person was with you. This is a song called Epic or Deep Waters." - Warren Ellis, The Dirty Three

i fucking LOVE the dirty three. so much so that i have to resort to expletives to express it on a message board.

"Sisters" by ZuZu's Petals (Minneapolis late 80's early 90's band)

For anyone who has admired an older sister (or brother) and then watch them make wrong decisions and fall hopelessly into a downward spiral.

Also...

"To Live is to Fly" by Townes Van Zandt

Pass the tissue.

Songs: Ohia: The Lioness
Heartless Bastards: Came a Long Way
Tom Waits: On the Nickle
The Black Keys: The Lengths

Not really crying. But damn. These songs. Damn.
When you believe, they call it rock and roll.

disregarding the spam-bot, only two songs have the power to tear me up.

New #1 by Bob Mould
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley

that's it.
Betonprosa oder Permafrost
Schmelzvorgaenge oder nicht
Das deja vu ist jetzt historisch
die Gemengelage wie gehabt
Ich blute
Irgendwas ist immer---B.B.

Mad World -Gary Jules
Wish You Were Here -Pink Floyd
Angel -Sarah McLachlan

The first two are great songs and I love them, but I can't listen to "Angel"

"Hallelujah" is also on my list

This one doesn't usually make me cry even though it is my absolute favourite VU song, but I did cry when I heard it live in Paris a couple of months ago performed by Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson. Beautiful.

Also "Iron Feather" by Woven Hand and "Home" by Depeche Mode.

The version of Listening to Otis Redding.....on Golden Opportunities, and the Nina Simone song Do What you Gotta Do is good too, shoot those were all good songs. Ballad in Plain D by Bob Dylan, Wolf Parade- I'd DBelieve In Anything is a good one. The Posion by Pedro the Lion
When I'm hosed and they're closing in, maybe only then, Really I'll try to get right with myself.

Really I just want to slide, I want to crash land
